Fortune 100 web site #98 – Humana: almost human

I would guess that it’s tough to find an objective web site reviewer for a health care company in the is country. We all feel a little duped by that industry. Either they have an airtight bargain with the devil or an airtight deal with the AMA. We’ll get back to that later.

This particular circle of Hades is the lowest on the Fortune 100 ladder. Though I can’t, in fairness, remember where I’ve personally come in contact with Humana.com, I’m pretty sure I have.  You can take that declaration with a shaker of salt.

While I can’t vouch for the current content behind closed doors, I can say that the site looks like it was designed for the people who use it most. The navigation is right up front- nothing flashy-but easy to use and loading quickly.

h\Humana: made for the humans who actually use it.

It’s proof positive (isn’t proof enough without the positive?) that you don’t have to force your navigation to the top of the page like everyone else in the known universe. There’s lots of content and, although it’s a bit busy, it works.

What’s a bit strange is the duplication of username and password. You can actually go to the home page of the secure sites and see a little more content. I don’t know if this was one of the internal deals where everyone wants he same piece of real estate so no one gets space on the home page.

To be fair, insurance is kinda complicated, so those people that don’t get it can find a second chance of they don’t enter their passwords.

On the B-pages, they abandon the “middle nav” and go to traditional nav. I think it works. While it’s extremely content heavy, I think it works.
