Web content is getting smaller but more important.

Are writers useful anymore? As a content strategist and copywriter, I’ve found writers are more useful than ever. But not everyone believes that. in fact, I find most people are looking for copy editors to clean up their messes. They’re not intentionally disrespectful to the writer. Thy just don’t see the value.

You build a web site and you can’t understand why you should pay for a writer to put fewer and fewer words on the page.  It started with html, updated to web 2.0, and now the mobile web allows for even less content (and it’s so small you can’t even read it).

But let’s look at this logically. there is less and less space for the eye to read. That means that,  no only is design more important, but so is the written word. If you get it wrong, you lose. Now that may appear to be a copy editing job, but it really means that choosing the right word is crucial.

Look at SEO: if you say to-may-to instead of to-mah-to, that might drop you off the first page of search results.  Well, what if you actually make it to the reader’s eyes and you sound like a monotonous blob of mud.  Not only do you miss out on more of the reader’s attention, you stick in his mind as a place NOT to go next time.

Think about it. Here are some examples.

The fact that you’re thinking about it is the explanation and reason you need a content specialist.
